Live Product Search

2 min read·Article 15 / 24

Live Product Search means finding a purchasable item from inside an experience, in real time, without leaving it. XOM does not implement a shopper-facing product search today. What it does implement is discovery over content and a search over ad inventory, both of which are documented here so the distinction is clear.

01How discovery works today

XOM's discovery model is algorithmic rather than query-driven. Users pick one of six named feed algorithms, each with a stated editorial philosophy:

| Algorithm | Philosophy | |---|---| | Destiny | Surfaces content you were "meant" to see | | Discern | Quality-filtered — high signal, low noise | | Discover | Exploration-first — new creators and topics | | Diversity | Balance across verticals and voices | | Dynamic | Adapts in real time to interaction patterns | | Dynasty | Weights your network and the accounts you follow |

The selector spans thirty-four industry verticals, so a user tunes the feed by interest domain rather than by search string. A recommendation container and a recommendation engine within the platform's AI subsystem layer provide the personalised layer on top.

02The search that does exist

The only full-text search documented in the platform is administrative: the Ad Creative Manager searches across an ad's title, description, identifier and category, with category filtering across twenty categories and type chips for premium, standard, affiliate, sponsored, flash and native creatives. That is an operator tool over house and vendor ad inventory, not a consumer search over merchandise.

Ad creatives do carry a targeting block — user types, interests, and geographies — and the ad engine filters by user profile against those fields at serve time. It is the nearest thing XOM has to matching a product to a person, and it runs on the advertiser's side rather than on a shopper's query.

03Products in the platform today

Products appear in XOM as one of fifteen reward categories, covering physical and digital product rewards earned through the progression system. A marketplace sits above that in the platform's revenue-stream table with a status of planned, resting on the existing inventory and reward foundations rather than on any commerce catalogue.

04What a product search would need

Four things are undetermined and would have to be settled first: where the catalogue lives and who owns it; whether search is first-party or federated to a merchant or affiliate feed; how price and availability stay fresh enough to be shown live; and which surface renders results — the feed, a container, or a dedicated view.
