Audio Production

2 min read·Article 02 / 06

Audio production on the platform runs through Studio, the Media Console's digital audio workstation, and Stage, its live performance and DJ surface. Both are browser applications built on the Web Audio API, so a session opens without installing anything.

01Studio: the workstation

Studio follows the layout an engineer expects. A transport bar holds play, pause, stop, record and loop, with tempo (including tap tempo), time signature, metronome and a bar/beat/tick position readout. The arrangement canvas holds tracks and clips: drag to move, drag an edge to resize, split with the blade tool, trim non-destructively, clone with Option-drag, snap to a grid you choose, and zoom the timeline in and out. Tracks group into collapsible folders and carry the usual per-track controls — mute, solo, record arm, lock, rename, colour and delete — with undo and redo across the whole edit.

The mix console gives every track a channel strip: fader, pan, solo, mute and peak meters, feeding a master bus. The device rack holds a per-track effect chain — parametric EQ, compressor, reverb, delay, distortion and filter — plus instruments, with a piano roll and step sequencer for writing MIDI parts. The browser panel on the left is the sample and preset library, searchable and categorised, backed by a catalog of over two thousand samples served from cloud storage.

02Sessions that survive a refresh

Studio persists in three tiers at once. Track, clip, mix, device and transport state is written to browser local storage as you work; recorded and imported audio is kept as blobs in the browser's IndexedDB and restored on load; and the whole session is mirrored to the account's cloud document as a backup. On top of that, named projects can be saved, listed, loaded and deleted, each snapshot carrying its tempo, track count and save time.

03The AI Producer

Studio's AUTOMATE panel pairs an AI producer with a live activity log. Describe the track you want and it produces an action plan the dispatcher executes step by step, with pause, resume, cancel and mid-run redirection. You can also drop in a reference track: Studio analyses it for tempo, key, energy and mood, then offers to build something in the same territory. Every action the plan runs is timestamped in the log, so the session stays auditable rather than magical.

04Stage and finished audio

Stage is the performance counterpart — two decks with real waveform display, cue points, pitch, crossfader, three-band master EQ with kill switches, a launch grid for sample triggering, and an autonomous AI DJ that can take the controls. Finished Studio arrangements bounce to a real WAV file that lands in your Library, from where they can be pulled into a video sequence, a broadcast, or a podcast edit.
